Research Centers and Programs

These Research Centers and Programs are associated with the Marketing Department; their web sites have information about programs, calls for papers, and publications.

Created in 2003 as the result of a $10 million pledge to the Wharton School by Jay and Patty Baker. the Initiative will link retail theory with practice by forming a partnership between world class researchers, educators, and the global leaders of today's retail industry.

Professor Stephen J. Hoch is the Faculty Director and William Cody is the Managing Director. The Baker Retailing initiative has already been featured in the Knowledge@Wharton articles below:

"Seeking to further our understand of the characteristics of the 21st century enterprise" is the slogan of the SEI Center. The Center conducts a series of workshops, conferences and lectures for the exchange of knowledge and information among business leaders, world class researchers and educators and students. We seek to identify and understand trends in management practice and their impact, and to design and implement research programs to meet the future needs of management. The results of our efforts provide both educational material to faculty as well as guidelines for corporate action. Professor Jerry Wind is the founder and director.

In May 1995, the Wharton School established the Emerging Technologies Management Research Program to address the need for new best practices, strategies and competencies in the field of emerging technologies...under the supervision of a Core Team of senior Wharton faculty and staff representing management, marketing and strategic planning.  In 2001, the program was brought under the newly created Mack Center for Technological Innovation. Professor George S. Day is the Co-Director of the Mack Center.

Global teams, comprised of Wharton MBA students with MBA students from another leading international business schools, work with the top managers of their international client firms under the guidance of faculty from both schools to develop (1) a strategic plan that is grounded in market research and (2) a detailed implementation plan (including financial and operational plans) for their medium sized or entrepreneurial clients. Professor Leonard Lodish is the Founder and Program Leader of the GCP.
